Cobb angle question

Thank you for RadiANT. I have found it very helpful. My question is with the Cobb angles. When I measure them sometimes the dashed line is in between the two other lines and other times the dashed line is outside of one of the solid lines. What does this mean? Is this the difference between a positive and negative angle? Thank you.

The dashed line is a segment parallel to the second segment drawn, attached to one of the endpoints of the first drawn segment. The value displayed is the absolute value of the acute angle between the two drawn segments.
